Girls soccer team advances to finals

The Annandale United Football Club’s girls’ under-16 Xtreme team qualified to compete in the finals of the Region 1 Champions League by beating a Braddock Road Youth Club team 6-1 on May 4. The Annandale United FC is the travel soccer arm of the Annandale Boys and Girls Club.

The U16 girls will compete this weekend in Kirkwood, Del., against teams from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The winner will earn a spot in the Region 1 Championship Series next June in Barboursville, W.V., which will include the 24 top teams from Virginia to Maine. The league champion and runner-up will also have a chance to compete in the U.S. Youth Soccer National League next year.

Every girl on Annandale’s U16 team also plays for her high school. Chloe Beverina, Mariana Hershner, and   Anna Heilferty are on the JEB Stuart girls soccer team. Kelly Loman and Aiden Sherry play for Woodson. The others are from a variety of public and private schools in Fairfax, Prince William, and Stafford counties.
