Glasgow Middle School gets a new principal
Powell [ACPS] |
Victor Powell has been hired as the new principal of Glasgow Middle School. He will take over from Katie Madigan, who has been serving as acting principal.
Powell has been the principal of Maury Elementary School in the City of Alexandria for the past four years.
Before that, Powell had been an assistant principal at Samuel Tucker Elementary School in Alexandria and assistant principal at Park View High School in Loudoun County. He started his career in education as a math teacher.
In a farewell email message to the community, Madigan says “it has truly been an honor to serve the Glasgow community this past year.”
“Together we have navigated these uncertain times during the pandemic, all the while building on our strong instructional foundation,” Madigan says. “One thing I am most proud of was how we expanded our community and family partnerships as well as increased access for all students this past year with our mobile Monday libraries, the parent academy, student leadership opportunities, and our partnership with the PTA.”
The eighth-graders’ return to the building last week went smoothly, she says, and “we can’t wait to welcome our sixth and seventh-graders.”
In related school news, Michael Cunningham announced his retirement as principal of Columbia Elementary School in Annandale, effective June 30. Cunningham had been at Fairfax County Public Schools for 30 years, including 14 years at Columbia.
The FCPS Region 2 office will engage the Columbia staff and community in the selection process for a new principal.
