Kids don’t have to stop playing soccer just because it’s winter. Golden Boot Soccer is offering two ways to get kids ready for spring soccer leagues: indoor soccer skills classes and an indoor winter break futsal camp.
The classes, for players age 3-18, beginners through travel-level, are on weekends and weekdays at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (8900 Little River Turnpike).
“Players will work with our patient, positive, perceptive trainers to develop new skills and techniques and refine existing ones,” says Amanda Springmann of Golden Boot.
Golden Boot is also offering an expert training program, starting Feb. 1, consisting of a series of clinics for ages 11-13 and 14-18 run by nationally known experts with extensive professional or collegiate coaching experience. The lineup of coaches hasn’t been finalized yet. Last year’s group included former World Cup scorer Bruce Murray, several local D-1 college coaches, and a trainer from DC United.
The indoor winter break futsal camp is Dec. 26-28, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Fairfax Athletic Center (inside the Kids Choice Sports Center building), 4317 Ravensworth Road, Annandale. Registration is currently under way. The cost is $225.
The camp, designed for players of all levels age 7-13, will feature futsal skills training, games, tournaments, contests, team-building and – most important – fun.
Players will work in groups with professional trainers, many of whom have been with Golden Boot for years, says Springmann. “Players will learn new skills and techniques, burn off their holiday energy, and stay competitive with training appropriate to their age and level.”
