Grammy-nominated musician to perform at Annandale HS Wednesday

Grammy-nominated violinst Jenny Oaks Baker, a resident of Annandale, will perform Jan. 25, 7 p.m., at Annandale High School. The concert, sponsored by the Poe Middle School Orchestra Boosters is free for strings students in the Annandale pyramid and their families. Admission for the general public is just $5.

Baker, one of America’s most accomplished classical violinists, began playing the violin at age 4 and made her solo debut in 1983 when she was 8. For seven years, Baker performed as a first violinist in the National Symphony Orchestra before resigning to devote more time to her four children.

Her latest CD, “Wish Upon a Star,” featuring music from Disney movies, has been nominated for a Grammy in the category “best pop instrumental album.” The Grammys will be aired Feb. 12. Her 2010 CD, “Then Sings My Soul,” hit the #1 spot on the Top Classical Albums chart.

Baker has performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Strathmore Hall, the Coolidge Auditorium at the Library of Congress, and the Kennedy Center. She has soloed with the National Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Utah Symphony, Orchestra at Temple Square, and the internationally acclaimed Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
