Granddaddy’s Skillet opens on a limited basis
A new soul food restaurant is in the spot formerly occupied by Flippin’ Pizza. |
Granddaddy’s Skillet, the new soul food restaurant in Pinecrest Plaza, had a limited soft opening on Nov. 9.
But if you want to check it out, you’ll have to wait a little longer. Granddaddy’s Skillet will be closed Nov. 10 as a problem with the exhaust system needs to be fixed. If all goes well, co-owner Roxanne David hopes it can reopen on Wednesday.
The restaurant, at 6544 Little River Turnpike, specializes in pan-fried fish but will serve much more.
David was the food services manager at Poe Middle School for 26 years. Granddaddy’s Skillet is named for her grandfather, Percy Ledbetter, who founded Percy’s Seafood Restaurant in Pittsburgh.

During the first week, Granddaddy’s Skillet is serving just a few items. On Nov. 9, the menu consisted of a fried fish plate ($12.90), Uncle Henry’s chicken livers with rice ($8.40), and fried wings. Entrees came with bread and a choice of two sides – mac and cheese, potato salad, or collard greens. Red velvet and pound cake slices are available from the Blossoms of Joy home-based bakery.

And because the credit card system isn’t operational yet, the restaurant is accepting cash donations only for the next few days.
By the end of next week, David expects to offer the full menu, which includes Nana’s baked ham (as an entrée or sandwich), Deacon Reid’s meatloaf, Papa Vergis’ pork chops, Grandma Beulah’s salmon cakes, and much more. There are plans for a different vegetarian meal for every day of the week, from butternut squash on Monday to a roasted vegetable medley on Friday.
Granddaddy’s Skillet will be open Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. It’s closed on Sundays.
Cant wait to try it. This is great news for our district.
Hubby got lunch there yesterday. He said the collard greens were tasty, the potato salad was fresh and "zesty", and the fried fish was outstanding. He liked the lemon pound cake, too. I'm looking forward to trying some of their mac and cheese and veggie lover's offerings when they broaden their menu. We're thrilled to have a new type of cuisine here in Annandale!
Went on Monday, going back on Friday with a bigger appetite and more space. The collards were excellent, I will need some more.
Is the restaurant open? Tried to call and it says they are closed due to mechanical issues
