Good Fortune stores specialize in food from China, and the new store will also offer fresh produce and other items from
South Asia, Latin America, Japan, and Europe, said Jason Ren, project
manager with the Good Fortune Supermarket Group.

Ren said the store will have a large seafood section with
live crabs, lobsters, and fish; holiday items like imported moon cakes
for the Chinese Moon Festival; specialty meats like fresh barbecued pork and roasted duck in the meat
section; a large bakery; freshly made sushi; and non-food items like imported
Chinese lanterns and dinnerware. He said the store will offer “more variety,
high quality, low prices, and world-class customer service.”

The Vietnamese community played a major role in bringing
about this project, said Alan Frank, senior vice president of Capital
Commercial Properties, the owner of Eden Center. He’s been looking for a
long-term tenant for 13 years for the site, which most recently housed the Classique
Home furniture store. Good Fortune has a 20-year lease.

City of Falls Church Vice Mayor David Snyder said the new supermarket
will not just provide more shopping options for residents but will enhance the Eden
Center, which he called “one of the major historic and cultural sites in the
entire Washington, D.C., region.” The Eden Center has 120 Vietnamese restaurants, cafes, and shops.

The project could also help boost interest in redeveloping Seven Corners, where a major effort is under way to come up with a plan for creating
a mixed-use town center and transportation improvements.
