Gun incident near Annandale High School
There was an incident involving a gun near Annandale High School today.
Principal Shawn DeRose sent an email to the AHS community stating that two students who were in Ossian Hall Park after school said they “interacted with two men, one of whom displayed a weapon.”
According to a parent who heard about the incident, a group of students were playing basketball when they were approached by two individuals who didn’t attend the school.
The men started asking the students questions, the parent said. The students ignored them. Then one of the men took out a gun and asked if they wanted to shoot it. When the students said no, the men walked away laughing.
“The students were not harmed and returned to the school to report what happened,” DeRose said. “We immediately contacted Fairfax County Police. At the same time, out of an abundance of caution, we requested that students, staff, and spectators at our outside activities come inside the building.”
They stayed inside for about 15 minutes until the police determined it was safe for everyone to return to their outdoor activities.
There will be additional safety patrols at school this evening and tomorrow.
