Hair Unik in Annandale prepares to open next week

Trisha Vo, the owner of Hair Unik in the Annandale Shopping Center on Columbia Pike, is sprucing up the store with a fresh coat of paint in preparation for opening.
Vo plans to open on May 29, the date Phase I of Virginia’s reopening plan is scheduled to take effect in Fairfax County, pending the attainment of certain health thresholds.
Vo worked at the Hair Cuttery on Little River Turnpike in Annandale for six years before founding Hair Unik eight years ago. When the company that owns Hair Cuttery announced earlier this month that it will close that shop permanently, Vo hired five of the stylists that worked there to augment her regular staff of four.
The last couple of months have been difficult for small business owners, and Vo has been able to stay afloat with the help of a Paycheck Protection Program loan from the Small Business Administration.

When Hair Unik opens, Vo plans to limit access to five customers at a time and provide hand sanitizer to customers, as well as follow the other strict rules for hair salons, barbershops, spas, massage centers, and tattoo shops, as well as hair salons, outlined in Gov. Ralph Northam’s Executive Order 61 describing what happens in Phase I. These businesses must:
- be open for appointment only;
- limit occupancy to 50 percent of what’s allowed in their occupancy permit;
- have six feet of space between work stations;
- allow no more than one appointment per stylist at a time;
- require employees to wear face coverings;
- provide face coverings for customers;
- thoroughly clean and disinfect surfaces every 60 minutes; and
- clean and disinfect personal grooming tools after each use or discard them.
