Halloween parties on tap all weekend at Annandale-area bars
With Oct. 31 happening on a Sunday this year, get ready for a weekend-long Halloween party. Here’s a sampling of what’s going on in some of the bars in Annandale and nearby areas:
The Cue Club, 7041 Columbia Pike, Annandale, is having a Halloween “water pong” competition Friday, Oct. 29 at 9 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 30, there will be a DJ and costume contest beginning at 9 p.m. The details haven’t been finalized, but there will probably be prizes for best, scariest, and funniest costumes, with Cue Club gift certificates to the top winners.
Kilroy’s Monster Mash 2010 takes place Friday evening, Oct. 29. There will be a DJ, dancing, door prizes, and a costume contest with separate prizes for men and women. Winners will receive Kilroy’s gift certificates – $100 for first-place winners, $75 for second place, and $25 for third place. Kilroy’s is at 5250-A Port Royal Road, Springfield, in the Ravensworth Shopping Center.
Velocity Five, 8111 Lee Highway in Merrifield, is having Halloween events Friday and Saturday. On Oct. 29, it’s the “Sexiest Halloween Costume Party,” featuring DJ G Wiz, with prizes for the “sexiest female and hottest male.” Velocity Five’s “Halloween Throwback Party” is Oct. 30, with cash prizes for the best costumes from the 70s, 80s, and 90s and the best “celebrity look-alike.”
The Sunset Grille (left), 7250 Columbia Pike, Annandale, is having a costume contest at about 9 p.m. on Saturday. There will be prizes for first, second, and third-best costume, but the details haven’t been worked out yet. Mike Mack and the Attack, a classic rock group, will perform.
The Dogfish Head Alehouse in Seven Corners, 6220 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, is having its first-ever “Halloween Spooktacular” Sunday, Oct. 31, from 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Hourly contests will be held all day for kids and adults for best, scariest, and most creative costumes, with prizes like T-shirts, pint glasses, and gift certificates. There will be a special kids menu featuring “ghoulish” items, plus face painting and games for kids.

As a long-time resident of Annandale, it’s been my experience that trick or treat night is always on Oct. 31. What do readers think?
