With the back-to-school shopping season just about over, it’s
time to start planning an awesome Halloween costume.
There are 10 Spirit Halloween stores – seasonal pop-ups that
offer a huge variety of costumes, masks, accessories, and home décor – that have opened recently or set to open soon in Northern Virginia.

Two of them are in Mason District: in the
former H.H. Gregg building at 5718 Columbia Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads and in
the former Stein Mart at 7271 Arlington Blvd. in Graham Park Plaza.

New costume themes for this year include the Fortnite and
Overwatch videogames. You’ll also find costumes based on “Black Panther,” “Hocus
Pocus,” “Rick and Morty,” and “Ghostbusters.” If you want to dress up like a unicorn,
pirate, steampunk or anime character, or a zombie, mug of beer, or avocado, they’ve
got it.

There are elaborate animatronics, too, and everything you need to scare the pants off trick or treaters or party guests.
What you won’t find at Spirit Halloween are pet costumes. So
if you’re planning to dress up your dog or cat for the Taste of Annandale pet contest on Oct. 13, you’ll have to shop somewhere else, such as Chico’s Natural Pet Market in Barcroft Plaza, or design your own pet outfit.

I think its great that the shoppping center found a part time tenant. However, its sad that our commercial district is eroding. Developers dont want to develop any mixed use at this important gateway to the County, Penny Gross is in La La Land with an interim park,a homeless shelter and the social services palace. The Baileys Crossroads retail district is being guided by the lack of vision, misguided application of occupancy usage, and a disregard for the comprehnensive plan.
