The new Hampton Inn & Suites that opened June 8 in Seven
Corners is off to a good start, with 112 of the hotel’s 160 rooms booked for
the first night, reports Sales Director Carmen Edmonds.

Edmonds expects guests will be a mix of corporate travelers
during the week and tourists on weekends looking for an affordable place to
stay close to D.C. And because the hotel is near residential areas, she anticipates it will be a
good option for out-of-town guests.

The hotel, at 6430 Arlington Blvd., is next door to a
mixed-use project under construction (photo below) that includes apartments, ground-floor retail
and 18 townhouses at the rear facing South Street.

Guests at the Hampton Inn can select from three room options:
a standard room with a king-size bed, two queen-size beds, or a suite with a
king bed and sleeper sofa. Rooms have coffeemakers, hairdryers, irons, ironing
boards, TVs with free movie channels, free WiFi, and pull-down blackout screens
on the windows. Suites also have microwave ovens and mini refrigerators.

The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, but it does offer free
breakfast for guests, with make-your-own waffles, steak and eggs, omelets,
sausage, bacon, and pastries. The spacious lobby area has electrical outlets
with USB ports, a large screen TV, and coffee available 24/7. There’s also a small
shop that sells snacks and travel items.

Guests have free access to an indoor swimming pool, a
fitness room, and a business center with two computers.

A first-floor meeting room can hold 60 people. It’s available for
rental for $400 to $600 a day. Edmonds hopes it will be used by local community
organizations, as well as business groups. The hotel is part of the Hampton by Hilton brand and is managed by Baywood Hotels.

The room rates listed on the website for the new Hampton Inn & Suites at 6430 Arlington Blvd. for one person for July 11 ranged from $89 to $109, depending on room type.
That compared to $111-$121 at the Comfort Inn (6111
Arlington Blvd.), $116-$169 at the Best Western (6633 Arlington Blvd.), and
$83-$102 at the Governor House Inn (6650 Arlington Blvd.).

Edmonds hopes that the meeting room will be used by local community groups and businesses.
At a rental fee of $400 to $600 dollars a day, I doubt it.
Adding even more congestion to the Seven Corners area for which the county and the Board of Supervisors have done nothing to mitigate those effects.
