Help Boy Scouts collect food for the needy

Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts across the area will be collecting food from residents this Saturday to donate to food pantries for families in need.
Last week, scouts put sticky notes on front doors advising residents of the Scouting for Food program. Residents are asked to fill a bag or box with non-perishable food and leave it by their front door by 9 a.m. on Nov. 9 for Scouts to pick up.
Boys in Scout Pack 150 and Troop 150, sponsored by the Annandale United Methodist Church Men’s Group, are participating in the regional Scouting for Food program in the area between Gallows Road, Holmes Run/Lake Barcroft, and Little River Turnpike. “It’s a huge area for little legs, but if you live in these areas and place your donations where we can see them from the street, we’ll get them,” says Scout parent Doug Mueller.
“Last year, you and your neighbors donated literally tons, but don’t worry, the Scouts are up for it,” Mueller says.
“We also encourage volunteering at the food pantry operated by ACCA [Annandale Christian Community for Action] and other food banks throughout the year to deliver food to families in need,” he says. “There is nothing like witnessing a hungry child’s excitement unpacking a food delivery to make one appreciate all we have and the difference we can make when we have a plan, energy, commitment, and your support.”
Other Cubs and Boy Scouts will collect food from other neighborhoods.
If donations are put out but don’t get picked up on Saturday, Mueller encourages people to bring the food directly to the ACCA pantry, 7200 Columbia Pike, Annandale.
