Help clean up Americana Drive on Veterans Day
Americana Drive is a dumping ground for contractors. |
Residents looking for something productive to do on Veterans Day are invited to join a cleanup project on Americana Drive in Annandale.
The event, 10 a.m.-noon on Nov. 11, is hosted by Friends of Accotink Creek and the Fairfax County Restoration Project. The Vistas of Annandale is offering their business center as a comfort station for volunteers.
This project builds on the successful cleanup of Americana Drive last February, which netted a huge amount of furniture, trash, and construction debris. There isn’t as much trash along that road as before, but there is still quite a lit of dumping going on by construction contractors.
Volunteers can sign up online or onsite at the corner of Americana Drive and Patriot Drive. This is a good opportunity for students to log in service hours.
It would be great if volunteers could sign up on line so we have enough supplies for everyone.
Can the police monitor this road and fine people who dump along it? Just despicable.
There should be consequences for littering.
They should install video cameras to see who's doing the dumping and then they can fine them. This is ridiculous!
