Heritage Drive CVS will close
The CVS store in the Heritage shopping center at 7859 Heritage Drive, Annandale, is closing. The store manager, known as JD, said the store’s last day will be June 5.
He said pharmacy customers will be able to transfer their prescriptions to other CVS stores.
The company closed about 900 stores between 2022 and 2024 and plans to close an additional 270 this year, according to a report by Fox 5 Washington DC.
A report on NPR says both CVS and Walgreens are on a multibillion-dollar cost-cutting spree due to multiple factors. The retailers have too many locations; had disruptive conflicts with health insurers; and face stiff competition from Amazon, Walmart, and Costco.
Both chains spent millions of dollars on government fines over allegations of unsafe staffing levels, overbilling government insurance programs, and contributing to the opioid epidemic, NPR stated.
Walgreens plans to close 1,200 stores over the next three years, including 500 in 2025.

So Sorry to see this happen we have used tis store for over 46 years for our prescription and other medical needs.

POOR SERVICE TIME, TERRIBLE PARKING AREA, SHOPLIFTING, NOT A NEIGHBORHOOD STORE, THREE OTHER COMPETITIVE PHARMACIES WITHIN SEVERAL BLOCKS OF THIS STORE … WALGREENS, SAFEWAY, GIANT AND A SMALLER INDEPENDENT PHARMACY. THE CVS IN HERITAGE PLAZA DOES NOT HAVE SUCH COMPETITION IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA. PERSONNEL ARE EXCELLENT. WE HAVE BEEN CONDUCTING PHARMACY BUSINESS FOR UVER 30 TEARS AT THIS STORE. I was truly surprised and saddened when my pharmacist told me they were closing. Heritage CVS has served me and my family well for more than 30 years!
The problems that led to this are prime examples of what happens when massive corporations get to run wild and free. They over-reach, and if/when they finally fall, they land with a huge, deafening “THUD.” I’m sorry for the staff and all the loyal customers who will be uprooted because some, um, jerks in the C suites went beyond greedy. Which ones are going to sell their super-yachts? Oh yeah–none of them.
The pharmacists at the Heritage Drive location are wonderful. I really hope they are relocated to a store near me.
