Hit-and run driver charged with manslaughter
Additional charges have been served on the driver allegedly responsible for a hit-and-run crash in Bailey’s Crossroads on July 8 that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
Benjamin Lopez Encinas, 33, of Woodbridge was charged with aggravated DWI manslaughter and felony hit and run, the Fairfax County Police Department reported on Aug. 14. He was previously charged with DWI.
He remains at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where is being held without bond.
Lopez Encinas was driving a 2010 BMW eastbound on Columbia Pike when he struck and killed Luis Fernando Jimenez Rodriguez, 26, at 2:13 a.m. at the Powell Lane intersection. He did not stop.
Police located the vehicle and all the occupants in the 6100 block of Marshall Drive, where Lopez Encinas was taken into custody.
So he hit a pedestrian and decided to park the car across the street from the scene of the accident?
