Hobby Lobby coming to Lincolnia

A Hobby Lobby store opened in Gainesville, Va., in January.

A large Hobby Lobby store will move into the vacant upper-level space at the Plaza at Landmark, reports Fred Cornett of HHH Properties Corp., which manages the shopping center.

The 65,000-square-foot space has been vacant since D Furniture closed in the middle of 2017. The space is being renovated, and Hobby Lobby is expected to open this fall, Cornett says.

Hobby Lobby sells arts and craft supplies, fabric, party items, wedding supplies, home décor, picture framing, and holiday merchandise. The company has 800 stores, including locations in Woodbridge, Gainesville, and Leesburg in Northern Virginia.

In keeping with owner Davis Green’s fundamentalist Christian beliefs, Hobby Lobby is operated “in a manner consistent with Biblical principles.” The stores are not open on Sundays. In 2014, Hobby Lobby won a case before the U.S. Supreme Court, which found the company does not have to provide health insurance to employees that covers emergency contraceptives.

In other Landmark Plaza news, the new Giant grocery store, which is expected to open in mid-November, will house a Starbucks and PNC Bank, Cornett says. Giant will replace Shoppers, which closed June 9. Renovations are expected to start by the end of the month.

EMP 180, a personalized weight-loss program, is moving into the space formerly occupied by a Payless shoe store next to Landmark Family Dental.

    1. I also will not patronize this business that has made it their business to interfere with the personal lives of their employees–i.e. no birth control coverage

  1. The ownership of Hobby Lobby was also recently fined for smuggling ancient artifacts out of Iraq for their bible museum. I don't remember the details, google it, but something like $100 million of artifacts.

I'll never spend one cent in one of their stores

    1. You have the story partly right. They were sold stolen artifacts. They should have checked the sale history. As soon it was discovered the artifacts were stolen, they
returned them to Iraq. They were not reimbursed, of course. These artifacts were not intended for the Bible museum but were part of their personal collection. I don't know what else they could have done. They righted the wrong as soon as they knew.

  2. I applied in February and Gorgeous New Hobby Lobby still has not called me back! I can't wait for a call after the lengthy February interview, testing, and of course rigorous elaboration of skills and requirements at my interview in order to work here some day (as the sign promised full-time hours in the future)! Well, its March already, where's my Interview Call-Back!?
