Hogge Park upgrade completed
The development of Hogge Park in Bailey’s Crossroads is virtually completed and is open to the public, the Fairfax County Park Authority announced.
Officially known as the Boyd A. and Charlotte M. Hogge Park, the 6-acre park, at 3129 Glen Carlyn Road, is on land acquired by the Park Authority from the Hogge family.
New features include a playground, two pickleball courts, a basketball court, a picnic pavilion and grill, community gardens, a trail, a stormwater facility, and a parking lot. An additional asphalt trail will be completed this spring.
There are 34 garden plots in raised beds surrounded by a fence. The 6 by 9-foot, ADA-accessible plots can be rented for a season (February-November) for $80. Priority will be given to nearby residents. Rentals are for one year only. There is a shed with garden tools and a hose.
Most plots in Fairfax County’s community gardens are much larger, are renewable, and rent for $140 a year.
Visit the Community Garden Plot Rental Program website to learn more about the program and apply for a garden plot.
The $2 million Hogge Park project was funded from park bonds approved by voters.
According to the Master Plan for Hogge Park, the Park Authority purchased the property in 2006 from Charlotte Hogge and her children. The condition of the sale allowed Charlotte to continue to live there for the rest of her life.
