Holmes Middle School invites alumni, community members to 50th anniversary celebration

Holmes Middle School students, families, alumni, and community members are invited to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary on Oct. 21.

The celebration, hosted by the school and the Holmes PTA, includes a 5K and Fun Run/Walk, awards for student writing and art, games, commemorative merchandise, and more.

The PTA is commemorating the anniversary by raising money for a multi-language electronic sign. Proceeds from the Holmes Run 5K will go toward purchase of the sign.

Donations are also being accepted online. Contributors will be recognized on a permanent plaque.

Here’s the tentative schedule for Holmes Middle School’s 50th Anniversary Celebration:

9:30 a.m. – Welcome to Holmes! Class reunions in the alumni room; displays on Holmes History, the Holmes Run watershed, community organizations, and entries from a student art and writing contest; on-site registration for the 5K and Fun Run.

10 a.m. – The Holmes 5K and Fun Run/Walk starts. It’s open to students, families, and alumni. It’s free for students, although they are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation.

10:30 a.m. – School and outdoor games begin.

11 a.m. – Food trucks arrive.

11:30 a.m. – Anniversary ceremony and recognition of special guests, including honorary chair, Mason Supervisor Penny Gross and other elected officials.

12:15 p.m. – Anniversary cake is served.

1 p.m. – Tree planting honoring Immediate Past Principal Roberto Pamas.

1:15 p.m. – Dedication of Little Free Library.

1:30 p.m. – Art and writing contest winners announced

2 – p.m. – Closing comments
