The mid-century modern style of the houses in Holmes Run Acres – with lots of wood and glass – sets them apart from the traditional brick

Several of those homes were open to the public Saturday as
part of the community’s annual Home and Garden Tour. While many residents have
expanded their homes and renovated the interior, they’ve maintained the original architectural
character as envisioned by the Luria Brothers, who built the first group of
homes in 1950. In fact, the Holmes Run Civic Association is so protective of
the community’s mid-century contemporary style, they got it listed on the National Register of Historic
Places in 2007.

| The Chu/Ketterer house is filled with Chinese antiques reflecting her heritage and the 13 years they spent in China. Holmes Run houses don’t have basements, so the owners have had to come up with innovative storage solutions. “We’ve had to learn to pare down,” Chu says. |

I work in people's homes and pass by many too, and it always impresses me how nice many places look, and the effort and design elements put into them! I can't ever imagine getting to live in some of these homes every day.
Great post! I just had a minor correction, the Holmes Run Acres Home and Garden Tour takes place every other year as opposed to being an annual event. Thanks!
