Home Depot agrees to address property maintenance problems

The Home Depot corporate office is aware of the complaints
about litter and day laborers in the parking lot at the store on Little River
Turnpike in Annandale, company spokesperson Stephen Homes told the Annandale
Blog.
“We’re making some real progress on this,” Holmes says. “The
food trucks, although not on our property, have left due to the fact that they
were not permitted. That will also help with the trash issue. We’re also
working with local police on a process to address the day laborers.”
Up to now, officials at the store, at 6555 Little River,
said they couldn’t do much about those problems because Home Depot doesn’t
own the parking lot. Fairfax County property records list the owners of 6555
Little River Turnpike as “Three W Inc., Lindsay Foods, and T and C Foods Inc.”
The Home Depot parking lot, facing Braddock Road.
“Like most businesses we have a policy of non-solicitation
at our stores, which would cover people soliciting for work or loitering,” Holmes
said.
According to Fairfax County spokesperson Brian Worthy, people
are allowed to congregate on public areas, such as sidewalks, “as long as they
are not obstructing traffic,” and that includes people looking for jobs. Private property is another matter. In that case, the owner
can ask people standing around to leave, he says.
While the county prohibits “loitering,” Worthy says the term
is narrowly defined, and he notes the Supreme Court has ruled that loitering is
not illegal.
And just because a property owner puts up a sign like the
one at Home Deport stating “No loitering, police enforced,” Worthy says, “that
doesn’t mean the police are involved in this.”

  1. I was there the other day and had to step over all sorts of trash just to get my kids out of the car. The trash was all food related. It is ridiculous that we do not have a law that eliminates the day laborers off of public property. You drive off the beltway on 236 and Annandale looks like a third world country with day laborers for a couple miles up and down 236. It is uncomfortable to patronize some of the stores (7-11 and gas station) because the day laborers are lined up all around the parking lot. When is our leadership going to take Mason District back for the people?

  2. What people are you referring to? Why do you assume that this land was made for certain people but not others?

    1. If it was made for pigs then I guess the land should revert to a pig farm. We will keep you posted when HD starts selling pig pens.

  3. Lets call a spade a spade, or an illegal alien an illegal alien. The People are the people of the USA who were born here or came here legally. Those are the people for whom FX County works and not people who broke the laws of our country to come here, to work illegally, to steal from the public "welfare system," to create anchor babies, to use ERs as primary cares, to create significantly more crime than citizens, and who, from what I have seen do live like pigs and are ruining Annandale and this County. Who else is contributing to this destruction? Why Penny Gross and every other elected official who have welcomed in these law-breakers and do nothing to stop them and advocate for their actual constituents.

  4. By people I mean those who want to live in a clean community where we do not have to walk through/drive through day laborers to patronize stores. By people I mean those who love this country and want to make it great and keep their yards clean and do not have five families living in one house. By people I mean those paying taxes every year and live here legally and want to sent their kids in a school where there is not trash on the playground and soccer fields. By people I mean those who want their children to go to a school where the Kindergarten classes over 50% of the class do not speak English and your child will be held back while they help catch up the non-English speaking children. I hope I explained that well enough. If others come here legally and contribute to this great country by paying taxes learning English teaching their children English and keeping this great country clean, I am very proud to call them my friends and neighbors.

    1. Wow. After all that, I'm shocked you even approve of soccer fields at schools. Shouldn't they only have baseball fields, to promote the AMERICAN pastime?

    2. I think we all have standards and I think asking for the above mentioned is not too much to ask. I don't care what sports are played, but I think these are valid points. I think if you have kids in the school system – you would probably understand a bit more on these concerns.

    3. I do have kids in the school system, who are getting a great education because of FCPS diversity, not in spite of it. But thanks for jumping to that conclusion, too. (I'm the 10:19 a.m. poster.)

    4. Talk about jumping to conclusion, I love sports all sports but if you can not take care of the fields you are given the privilege to use then I think you should lose that privilege. It is not a right. Keep it clean how hard is that? I pick up others trash all the time.

    5. CD, check your sarcasm filter. The reference to the "AMERICAN pastime" as opposed to soccer has to do with your anti-immigrant rant.

    6. I am not anti immigrant but anti illegal immigrants. I am also anti litter bugs and being a pig. I believe in the American way of taking care of our great and amazing country. I do love how easily you can make my statement against all immigrants. I would not make people out to be a racist when you do not know them. I am glad to hear your kids are getting a great education.

  5. Honestly, are the folks here okay with dirt, litter, overcrowding … and increased crime? Wow — how politically correct can you be

  6. I am an alien (not from outer space 🙂 ) who has followed the American dream and has lived here (legally) 35 years and I would agree that the new wave of immigrants rather than embracing American culture want to impose their own and lack respect for others. Karaoke bars at every corner, non-English business signs, loitering, littering, dirty yards, ten junker cars for 3 bedroom home, drinking in public, and driving without drivers licenses. And now, organized Yard-Sales. Out of control!

    1. Finally, someone who admits it, makes sense and is not ashamed to state that he/she is an immigrant and proud to be here.

You are correct the new breed of immigrants don't care about the neighborhoods they live in, this country and FFX County. This is because the US has left its back and front door open without sending invitations first. And the coddiling by County officials is revolting! People like you get it, you love it here and you want to be be here. But the mass majority just want to trash the US, send money to their native land and crap all over us and turn us into the cesspool they came from.

I am third generation and my grandparents could not wait to help make America great. This new breed has less interest in America and more about themselves. This is most unfortunate, because these folks are making it bad for the immigrants who really want to embrace America, want to love it and contribute greatly……very sad, and our government has been totally useless in resolving the problem. All members of congress should be made to live in Syria for a week!

Thank you for speaking up for the immigrants who want to stand out and help. You can help too by telling the next immigrant you see throwing trash on the road, to pick it up and mail it back to their homeland where they and the trash belong.
