Home Instead to recognize senior volunteers

Home Instead Senior Care is sponsoring a competition to recognize older volunteers through its 2013 Salute to Senior Service award program, and requests the public’s help in identifying deserving seniors.

“We all know seniors who do so much for our community,” said Jason Sager, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office in Annandale. “These silent heroes give selflessly, expecting nothing in return. And yet, their contributions often make a difference not only to the organizations they serve, but in changing how the public views growing older.”

The competition is open anyone age 65 or older who volunteers at least 15 hours a month. You can nominate yourself or someone else. Senior care professionals and those who work at hospitals, senior care facilities and other places where seniors volunteer are encouraged to nominate older adults, as well as family caregivers and the adult children of aging parents.

The nomination period is Feb. 1 through March 31. Online voting will take place April 15-30, and the winners will be announced in May.

Home Instead Senior Care will donate $5,000 to the cause of the national winner and $500 to each state winner’s cause. Their stories will be posted on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame.

Nomination forms are on the Salute to Service website. Completed forms can also be mailed to Salute to Senior Service, P.O. Box 285, Bellevue, Neb. 68005.
