Hot Lola’s specializes in spicy chicken
A new chicken place, called Hot Lola’s, opened Feb. 8 in Pinecrest Plaza.
The restaurant, at 6544 Little River Turnpike, Unit A, is in the space formerly occupied by Granddaddy’s Skillet.
Hot Lola’s offers chicken sandwiches, tenders, fingers, drumsticks, and wings at a variety of spice levels.
Co-owner and manager Alan Vo describes the chicken as a combination of Asian and Nashville flavors.
The spice levels range from “not hot” to “flippin hot.” The most popular option is “O.G. hot,” in the middle of the spiciness scale, with Sichuan peppercorn, Thai chili, and cumin. Sides include fries, kimchi, and coleslaw. Hot Lola’s only uses canola oil, Vo says.
A vegetarian portabello option will be added later. Beer, wine, and cocktails will be available once they get an ABC permit.
Vo and co-owner Kevin Tien, both from Louisiana, also own two other Hot Lola’s restaurants, in Ballston and Rosslyn. Tien is the head chef at Moon Rabbit, a Vietnamese restaurant at the Wharf in D.C.
Hot Lola’s is named for Tien’s dog.
With so many different kinds of chicken places in the Annandale area, Vo says “We’re in our own category. Our flavors are unique.”
No shortage of chicken options in A-dale that’s for sure, but I do like Hot Lola’s, I’ve tried the Ballston one a few times. It’s a huge chicken sandwich, I can’t finish it myself.
