Hot pot restaurant coming to Annandale

The former Kmart is being converted to a retail plaza.

Gom Shabu Shabu, a restaurant in Centreville, is opening a second location at 4355 John Marr Drive in Annandale, in the former Kmart building.

That structure, which is being renovated, has been identified on permit applications as the Eastgate Shopping Center. The building has been divided into about a dozen separate storefronts.

Other tenants so far include the B-Thrifty thrift store and the K Supermarket.

Gom Shabu Shabu is expected to open in February or March 2021. The menu will be the same as at the Centreville location.

Shabu shabu is a hot pot dish popular in Japan and Korea consisting of thinly sliced meat and bite-sized vegetables cooked in a steaming hot broth. Ingredients at Gom Shabu Shabu include beef, bok choy, mushrooms, bean sprouts, fish balls, fish cake, ramen, dumplings, rice, and more. There’s an all-you-can-eat option.

  1. Yay!

Just what this area needs – another hot pot restaurant.

What happened? they run out of "Thrift shop" signs? lol
it's like business owners here can either cook hot pots or re-sell used items.

JK, good luck to the new entrepreneur

  2. That shopping center is so ugly it hurts my eyes. More than likely people will be too nauseous from the sight of that place to try any new restaurant.

  3. I live in Annandale and it appears I will have to continue to dine and shop in other areas of the county. Please oh please can we have other retailers in Annandale? Oh well…

  4. That's a big business site, located inside the beltway, surrounded by great neighborhoods…why can't they find a real retailer to go in there?? It would be great if they could have leased to Target, Ledl, Trader Joes, or some larger store that would bring in business, instead of a bunch of no-name little shops that wont attract any attention…

    1. I’d rather have a bunch of smaller places like The Block (which is freakin packed most of the time), then another big brick and mortar that I can get to anywhere else in our area in a 10 minute drive. Places like Block and Pelicana are what make Annandale great. I think this hot pot place is awesome.

    2. Agreed Adam. I prefer places with character, personality, individuality that you can't find anywhere else over just another chain ore retailer that you see everywhere. Hot pot places are not all built the same either, I can't wait to try this place out.
