Hotel going up on Route 50

Construction is well under way on a Hampton Inn & Suites hotel between Arlington Boulevard and South Street in Seven Corners. It should be ready to open by August 2015, says an official with Baywood Hotels, which is developing the project.
The building will have 160 units and will be seven stories on one side and eight on another. While the rooms are suites, they won’t have kitchens, so the hotel isn’t intended for extended stays. It will have an indoor pool and a parking deck. The entrance will be on the service road along Arlington Boulevard.
The property was actually rezoned for a hotel in 1970 but the original applicant didn’t feel it made financial sense to pursue the project, said Mike Wing, the land use specialist in the office of Providence Supervisor Linda Smyth. Baywood Hotels bought the property about three years ago.
Construction hasn’t started yet on an apartment/townhouse/retail project between the future hotel and the two large office buildings at the Seven Corners intersection. The developer, JBG Cos., is still working on getting the engineering plans approved by Fairfax County, says Wing.
The site between the future hotel and the currently existing office buildings is my kids' favorite sledding hill…
It looks like it is going to be a MASSIVE building! Much to tall for the site! I would have been much happier with just the apartment/townhouse/retail project.
We NEED one in Annandale!
