House fire caused by faulty exhaust fan
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports a fire in a single-family house in the 7000 block of Lee Park Court near Roundtree Park April 21.
The fire started about 1:30 p.m. in a basement bathroom. It was caused by an “electrical event involving the ceiling exhaust fan.” The fire did not spread to the first floor.
No one was at home when the fire started. When the homeowner returned home, she saw smoke coming from the basement window and called 911. There were no working smoke alarms in the house.
The fire caused about $56,000 in damages. No one was injured. Four people were displaced by the fire. They declined assistance from the Red Cross.
