Illest Ingredients brings skate, b-boy contests to Wakefield Skatepark

The B-boy competition at last year’s Illest Ingredients at Wakefield Park

Skateboarders and urban dancers will gather at Wakefield Skate Park in Annandale on Saturday, Aug. 10, for the second annual celebration of youth culture, “the Illest Ingredients,” featuring music, skate competitions, and art.

Skaters will compete in a best trick contest (2 p.m.) and a two-minute run competition (5 p.m.) in which they’ll have to land as many tricks as possible while making use of all the obstacles in two minutes. Prizes will be provided by Fairfax Surf Shop.

Urban dancers will face off in a b-boy/b-girl battle (3:30 p.m.) and an all-styles battle (6:30 p.m.) on the half-pipe. The winners take home $200.

Throughout the day artists will demonstrate urban design techniques in live painting demonstrations. One of the featured painters is Dan Roncesvalles, a graphic designer who teaches a new urban art design class at the Audrey Moore RECenter.

The event is presented by Urban Artistry, a D.C.-based nonprofit, and Wakefield Skate Park. Admission is $10; all ages are welcome. The doors open at noon, the events will end around 8 p.m., and the park will remain open until 11 p.m.
