Inflatable fun center for kids opens in Annandale

There’s a new indoor playtime and party place for kids in
Annandale with large inflatable structures for bouncing and sliding.
It’s called the Alexandria Coliseum, and it opened in March in the
Kid’s Choice Sports Center, 4317 Ravensworth Road, Annandale, in the building
that used to house the Annandale Sport & Health Club, which closed last spring.

Eric Axilbund, president and general manager of the company,
says the facility was originally planned for Alexandria, but when that deal
fell through, the Annandale location was a perfect alternative.
There’s a giant moon bounce shaped like a soccer ball and
two huge inflatable structures for climbing, jumping, and sliding. Kids must be 2 years
old to use them, but there is no upper age limit. In fact, the record for the
obstacle course was set by a 34-year-old man.
The Annandale Coliseum is open 4-8 p.m. most weekdays, 4-10
p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturdays, and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturdays. In the summer and during
school breaks and holidays, it opens every day at 10 a.m.
Axilbund hopes to add an arcade with games and prizes in
about a month. Meanwhile, there’s a large room that can be rented for birthday and
sports team parties. The basic “Amazing Bounce Party” ($299) includes pizza,
drinks, cupcakes, decorations, tableware, and unlimited “bounce time” for 10
kids,  plus additional services.
Dropping in for an “open bounce” is $9.99 Mondays through
Thursdays and $12.99 on Friday and weekends. A five-visit pass is $47.99, and a
10-visit pass is $89.99.
The Kid’s Choice Sports Center offers a variety of athletic
activities provided by several different organizations.
The Fairfax Athletic Center has indoor soccer and lacrosse
teams on a turf field and summer sports camps for kids. The Players Soccer Academy
is hosting a spring soccer camp this week.
There’s also an indoor field for “futsal,” a variation of football
played on a smaller field, which has also been used for volleyball and
roller derby.
Blue Box Sports rents space at the center for developmental
sports programs for kids as young as 18 months, as well as soccer, basketball
and “lil sluggers” baseball for children up to age 6. Soccer Shots offers
training classes in soccer for young children.
