Inova dedicates new cancer center
The Schar Cancer Institute [Inova] |
The Inova Health System officially dedicated the Schar Cancer Institute April 24 on what had been the ExxonMobil headquarters on Gallows Road across from Inova Fairfax Hospital.
The institute will focus on individualized cancer treatments based on a patient’s genetic information.
The 420,000-square-foot cancer center will begin accepting patients May 13.
It’s the first facility to open as part of Inova’s Center for Personalized Health, which will eventually include additional medical research and healthcare facilities and mixed-use development.
The Schar Cancer Institute is named for Dwight and Martha Schar, who donated $50 million to the project. Dwight Schar is the founder and chairman of NVR, a home-building and mortgage banking company.
Inova also announced April 24 the appointment of Dr. John Deeken as president of the Schar Cancer Institute and medical director of the Inova Schar Head and Neck Cancer Program.
