Improvements proposed for intersection of N. Beauregard and N. Chambliss streets
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation is planning improvements at the intersection of N. Beauregard Street and N. Chambliss Street in Lincolnia.
The changes will be presented at a public meeting Tuesday, June 13, 7 p.m., at Holmes Middle School, 6525 Montrose St., Alexandria.
FCDOT plans to remove the right turn lane onto Shackelford Terrace and the through southbound lane of N. Chambliss Street, which merges with N. Beauregard Street. A third lane will be added to southbound N. Chambliss at its intersection with N. Beauregard , as well as a receiving lane on southbound N. Beauregard, to accommodate the removed through lane.
The concept for the proposed changes were developed in 2011 by the Mason District Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) 133 Task Force and the FCDOT staff. The task force recommended the project be added to the priority list of FCDOT’s Spot Improvement Program.
The N. Beauregard/N. Chambliss intersection is in the proposed Lincolnia Community Business Center (CBC) under consideration by the Lincolnia Planning District Study Task Force. The task force’s next meeting is June 6, 7 p.m., at Holmes Middle School.
The estimated budget for the intersection improvement is $1.1 million, with funding from a transportation bond passed by voters in 2014. The schedule calls for land acquisition and utility relocation to be completed by October 2018, final design by June 2019, and construction by May 2020.

That's it? That's all? That is an improvement but hardly solves anything. That does not address the left turning traffic coming out of Landmark Plaza blocking the box when their light turns red. That doesn't address the back up of north bound traffic on Beauregard who want to turn left at Chambliss. A better solution would be to close that instersection and re-configure the instection of Lincolnia and Beauregard. Force shopping center traffic to use the entrances and exits on Little River Turnpike and the back entrance/exit on Lincolnia.
Does this mean I will be forced to go through the light when coming from Lincolnia to get to LRT?
I'd also like to know. This is sounding like a horrid deal for anyone coming from Lincolnia – yet another light and backup to sit through.
"The concept for the proposed changes were developed in 2011 by the Mason District Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) 133 Task Force and the FCDOT staff." That says it all. IT IS NOT designed to ease local traffic concerns, just accommodate BRAC 133. TOTAL SH*T DEAL!!
Clean this place up!!
