Kid’s Choice Sports Center seeks soccer players, kids for summer camp

Soccer indoors at the Kid’s Choice Sports Center.

Playing soccer or other sports in the summer is tough—the heat saps your energy, overexerting yourself in high temperatures is unhealthy, and the mosquitoes and gnats can be a nightmare.

People who play indoors at the Kids’ Choice Sports Center in Annandale (4317 Ravensworth Road) don’t have those problems. The building is air conditioned, and there’s plenty of room for soccer without having to bounce the ball off the walls, says general manager Mo Sheta, who also operates a larger sports center in Woodbridge.

Groups can rent sports facilities for games or practice.

The center, in the old Annandale Sport & Health building, offers soccer leagues for men over 30 and  men over 40 plus a coed league. There are six to eight teams per league, with about 14 players on a team.

Summer leagues for youths—boys and girls ages 9-14—are starting soon, and registration is underway for summer camps. Contact Sheta for more information, 703-898-1008, [email protected].

The sports center has large indoor courts that can also be used for basketball, volleyball, and futsol, as well as rooms suitable for birthday party rentals. The Alexandria Coliseum uses part of the facility for an indoor play area for kids with giant inflatable structures for bouncing, sliding, and climbing on.

Several independent sports clubs rent the facility for games and practice. Individuals and groups can also rent a volleyball or basketball court by the hour.

Joe Lilli, runs a four-team soccer league on Monday nights and is looking for new players. If you’re interested, contact him at [email protected]. “If someone calls, we’ll put them into the right league for their age and ability,”  he says.

  1. Can someone comment on the artificial turf field at the Kids Choice facility in Annandale? Are those little black things the same shredded black tire material that is causing cancer concerns on soccer fields across the country. Also, it is absolutely filthy. Anyone else have concerns?
