Kids find gifts at Facets’ Sibling Shop

The holidays came a little early for some young residents of the Wedgewood apartments in Annandale.

More than 100 kids showed up at the Sibling Shop, a program set up by Facets at the Wedgewood Community Center Dec. 15. Each child was invited to select a gift for a brother or sister, or if they don’t have a sibling, for themselves.

The gifts – toys, games, dolls, stuffed animals, craft sets, and more – were donated by the faith community, businesses, and individuals, says D’Ivonne Holman, volunteer manager at Facets, a nonprofit organization that manages the community center.

To keep the event manageable, 10 children were admitted at a time and each one had only a couple of minutes to select a gift. There were plenty of volunteers to help with the decision making.

The Wedgewood is a subsidized housing development operated by the Fairfax County Department of Housing and is reserved for households with incomes that do not exceed certain income limits.
