Korean restaurant specializing in beef intestines coming to Annandale

Construction is underway on Gopchang Story BBQ restaurant at 7356-B Little River Turnpike, Annandale, in the Little River Shopping Center.

Gopchang means intestines in Korean, and the Gopchang Story chain specializes in beef intestines (small or large) but also serves pork belly, spicy intestine stew, bulgogi hotpot, beef tartar sushi, and other dishes.

The restaurant is going into the space formerly occupied by the Café Muse restaurant/karaoke bar.

The chain has about 70 locations in Korea, two in New York City, one under construction in Centreville, and others planned for Fairfax and other locations in the United States.

    1. And how do you know that the poop is gone? Are you an intestinal cleaner and inspector. Given your comments Adam on the blog you just may be.

  1. This is terrific! I have enjoyed eating Beef Tripe in the past, and I look forward to trying the delicacies that will be prepared by this new addition to our neighborhood.

    1. There's plenty of American food restaurants in Annandale – Silverados, Jukebox Diner, Grand daddy Skillet, Foxfire grill, Burger King, Wendys, Popeyes…

    2. From Wikikpedia: "American cuisine reflects the history of the United States, blending the culinary contributions of various groups of people from around the world, including indigenous American Indians, African Americans, Asians, Europeans, Pacific Islanders, and Latin Americans. Though much of American cuisine is fusion cuisine reflecting global cuisine, many regional cuisines have deeply rooted ethnic heritages, including Cajun, Louisiana Creole, Native American, New Mexican, Pennsylvania Dutch, Soul food, and Tlingit."

  2. I can't believe how mean people can be and make thoughtless comments. I personally, do not like tripe. I personally, do not think we need another Korean establishment. However, if this is what the community is and this is what is selling….then I drive within a 10 miles radius to Alexandria, Tysons, Springfield, Fairfax, Falls Church, Arlington. I also do not want another thrift store either. lol

  3. I am shocked by the racist and xenophobic remarks on this blog. Are there really still people in our culturally diverse part of the US who feel this hostile towards people from other lands? Did not your ancestors come from other lands, or are you 100% Native American? My Irish ancestors were treated disgracefully like this in the late 1800s, but now no one would dream of slandering someone from Ireland.

I grew up in Falls Church and raised my children in Annandale. One of the things that is so beautiful about the DC region is our cultural diversity. Even in the late 70s, JEB Stuart HS was one of the most diverse high schools in the US.

Whether some like it or not, our beautiful corner of Virginia has attracted thriving, productive, tax-paying, economy-building Korean and Viet Namese populations. The number of restaurants reflects this population in Annandale.

You may not have grown up with this cuisine, but you could perhaps expand your mind a little. I grew up on healthy American fare, but my kids have encouraged me to break out of my comfort zone. In doing so, I have discovered that one of the most delicious food outlets in Annandale is The Box. If you have not eaten their food, you are missing out! Their Banh Mi sandwiches, sushi bowls, and exotic ice cream flavors are amazing!

People the world over, including in Europe, from where many of our ancestors came, eat organ meats all the time. But no one is forcing you to eat beef intestines if you do not wish to try them.

Let us live and let live.

  4. I agree, Anon 2:40. I notice that people who are xenophobic tend to have a lack of curiosity about the world around them (and if I'm generalizing, so be it) – whether it comes to trying new foods (doesn't have to be tripe – could be haggis), learning a language, traveling to other countries (or neighborhoods), or displaying an interest in art or music. I'm not sure which comes first: the lack of curiosity or xenophobia, but it also seems to go hand in hand with lack of empathy.
