Kyle McDaniel joins the race for school board
Kyle McDaniel on March 1 announced he is seeking the Democratic endorsement for an at-large seat on the Fairfax County School Board.
“Over the last four years, our public schools have faced unprecedented challenges. I am running because every child deserves a high-quality education, regardless of ZIP code, in a safe and welcoming environment,” McDaniel says. “My top priority is helping every child live up to their full potential and realize their unique talents.”

“It’s no secret that parents, teachers, and kids struggled to weather the Covid pandemic,” he says. “We have an opportunity to learn, do better, and emerge stronger.”
As the father of two young daughters, McDaniel says: “I understand that moms and dads across the county are frustrated. Our teachers and staff are tired. Our children are struggling. I am running to lead our schools out of a post-Covid fog and into a bright tomorrow.”
When the pandemic hit, McDaniel closed the two companies he had started – involving furnished apartments and furniture rental – and earned a pilot’s license. In December 2020, he founded a flight school, Commonwealth Aviation, in Manassas and later a second location in Norfolk.
McDaniel would like to establish partnerships with the aviation industry to create aviation career pathways in the schools.
In McDaniels’s vision for FCPS, “equality and excellence coexist,” “school lunch debt is eliminated,” and “active shooter drills are a thing of the past.” He offers more details on his campaign website.
