Lake Barcroft house fire started in the engine of a Jeep in the carport
A house fire in Lake Barcroft on March 31 was caused by an electrical event in the engine compartment of a 2007 Jeep Wrangler in the carport, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department states.
The fire caused extensive damage to the one-story home in the 6300 block of Cavalier Corridor. One firefighter sustained a minor injury.
Two occupants were home when the fire started. A caregiver discovered the vehicle fire in the carport and called 911.
Neighbors assisted with evacuating the homeowner, who was in a wheelchair. Both occupants were safely evacuated before the fire department arrived, at about 5 p.m. There were smoke alarms in the house but they didn’t sound because of the location of the fire in the carport.
