Big changes are coming to the Plaza at Landmark, the
shopping center at Little River Turnpike and N. Beauregard Street in Lincolnia.
A new Giant supermarket is slated to open Nov. 16 in the
spot formerly occupied by Shoppers, reports Fred Cornett of Landmark HHH LLC. Shoppers closed in June. The new Giant will have a Starbucks and PNC Bank.

Hobby Lobby is expected to open Jan. 1, 2019, in the upper-level spot formerly
occupied by D Furniture. Demolition is already under way. EMP 180° Weight Loss recently
opened in the former Payless space.
Landmark HHH, which also owns Fair City Mall in Fairfax, is a Gold-level sponsor of the Taste of Annandale, a street festival on Oct. 13.

Cornett is a member of the Lincolnia Planning District Study Task Force, which has recommended the area around the Little River Turnpike/N.

The task force also designated a section of Landmark Plaza closest
to Interstate 395 for higher-density development. Landmark HHH is considering a
mixed-use building on that site.

The task force is currently working with the Office of
Planning and Development to evaluate options for addressing traffic congestion around the intersection. One scenario, which Cornett favors, would extend Oasis
Drive across Little River Turnpike and through the Landmark Plaza parking lot,
which would facilitate redevelopment.

the traffic problems, Cornett says, and that’s going to take a long time. “There
are a lot of moving parts, and the City of Alexandria and VDOT need to weigh
in.”

He would also like to see something done about the traffic congestion caused by buses heading east on Little River and stopping at Oasis Drive. A

says, while transportation improvements would take about eight to 10 years.

The task force and county staff are expected to complete a recommendation for an amendment to the Lincolnia section of the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan next spring. The Planning Commission would consider the plan amendment in
