Learn about crime-fighting at the FCPD Community Police Academy
The Fairfax County Police Department invites residents to get a behind-the-scenes look at every aspect of policing by attending the Community Police Academy.
The next session begins Thursday, Sept. 12. The academy meets every Thursday for 10 weeks, 6:30-10 p.m. There is no fee.
Attendees will visit police facilities across the county, meet officers from investigative units and specialized teams, and learn about the newest technology for fighting and deterring crime.
Participants in the spring session heard presentations on crime control strategies, internal affairs, cybercrime, forensics, crisis intervention, threat assessment, the use of force, victim services, the homicide unit, and more at Public Safety Headquarters in Fairfax.
They also visited the helicopter unit, the Animal Shelter, the Criminal Justice Academy, and a district police station.
Highlights included a tour of the Adult Detention Center and firearms training at the firearms range.
