Let’s hear it for the Mason Crest Tigers!
The votes are in, and the mascot for the new Mason Crest Elementary School is the tiger, and the colors are red and black.
Students at four nearby elementary schools—Beech Tree,
Belvedere, Woodburn, and Annandale Terrace—who will be attending the brand-new
school this fall, had a chance to vote on the mascot and colors. The tigers beat
the gryphons by just nine votes. Other mascots under consideration were the
cardinals, mustangs, hawks, lions, and colts.

Color combinations that didn’t make the cut include
orange and black, red and silver, navy and white, silver and gold, maroon and
white, and orange and blue.
The tiger was also the mascot for the old Masonville Elementary School that used to be on that site.
