Lincolnia Road is expected to be completed by the end of June or early July,
says Ken Lim of the Construction Management division in the Fairfax County
Department of Public Works and Environmental Services.

The cemetery is needed because the Fairfax County’s existing cemetery for indigents on Jermantown
Road is totally filled. The county has had to purchase private sites for
burials until the new cemetery is available.
The Lincolnia cemetery will have space for 845 graves, says Barbara
Antley of the Adult and Aging Services Division in the Fairfax County
Department of Family Services. Graves will have standard flat markers. About 90 percent of the new bodies to be buried there
will be indigents; the others will be unclaimed or unknown.
Antley estimates there will be about 25 burials there
annually. “Burials will be for individuals where there are no other plans for
disposition,” she said. In FY 2013, the Department of Family Services assisted
with 27 cremations and 24 burials. Generally, family members claim the
cremains.

Existing graves on part of the property known as St. Paul’s
Episcopal Cemetery are not being disturbed. There are about 74 graves there, the
oldest dating from 1903. Those graves are being fenced off from the new ones.The church building on that site was destroyed in the
1940s.

the new graves, Lim said. The site will have about six or seven parking spots.

Oh good. Keep the dead vagrants fenced off from the dead non-vagrants. Is there some reason it can't be just a cremation instead of using full graves for each? Not to sound heartless, but if this is for people with no other family, or plans, etc, it would seem a more efficient use of limited space.

There is no new fence that has been built between the old section and the section that will be used for indigent people. There were some existing fences around some of the grave plots in the older section. If there is going to be a fence built around the old section it has yet to be added.
I'm glad they will put up a fence, people are dying to get in there.
