Oct. 14 was a very lucky day for Jefferson Soto, as his puppy, Lucky, won him a $100 gift certificate as the top winner in the best-dressed pet contest at the Taste of Annandale.

The contest was hosted by Chico’s Natural Pet Market (6349-A Columbia Pike in Barcroft Plaza), one of the sponsors of the Taste of Annandale.

Chelsea and her dog, Theodore, won in the look-alike category, and Vivianne Couts and her foster dog, Linus, won in the most creative category. All the winners received gift certificates, and all the contestants got gift bags.

Danielle Areco, the owner of Chico’s, urged everyone who happened to bring a dog to the street festival to improvise a makeshift outfit, although Chico’s booth offered a large selection of costumes and pet supplies.

Lucky wore a red hoodie, and Theodore looked dapper in a men’s wear get-up. Among the other contestants, there was a cheerleader, bumble bee, Redskin fan, and ice cream parlor.

Couts, also a sponsor of the Taste of Annandale, signed up for the pet contest at the last minute, so she and Linus wore matching T-shirts from her real estate company, Couts Group/Coldwell Banker. Linus is in need of a “forever home,” by the way. Contact Viv, at [email protected], for more information.
