Made in Fairfax offers holiday gifts made by local artisans

Many seasonal craft shows are not happening this year due to the pandemic, but there’s another source for unique gifts created by local artisans: Fairfax County’s Made in Fairfax directory lists dozens of artisans who create everything from jewelry to baked goods, stationery to body lotions.

The Made in Fairfax initiative supports small-scale manufacturing. Entrepreneurs interested in opening a small-scale production business can find information on resources, networking groups, and marketing opportunities.

The program also encourages residents to shop locally and support Fairfax County artisans. Here are just a few holiday gift idea suggestions from the Visit Fairfax gift guide featuring Made in Fairfax items:

  • Begoña Morton creates tea towels with designs inspired by her original oil paintings.

  • Blue Hyacinth Mosaics features colorful pendants, earrings, bracelets, and more created from found objects and glass by Shona D’Cruz.
  • Cervantes Coffee Roasters, a woman-owned company based in Springfield, sells bags of single-origin beans on a roast-to-order basis.

  • Radhika Murari’s OmMade Peanut Butter company offers a variety of unique flavors, such as “espresso ecstasy” and “pumpkin paradise.”

  • Candice Bennett started her textile business, called Shutdown Sewing, during the 2018 government shutdown. She makes tote bags, quilts, napkins, face masks, and much more.

  • For the dogs on your holiday list, Pawfectly Delicious Dog Treats is a nonprofit that trains and employs young adults with disabilities to make handcrafted treats.

Another great source for beautiful handmade gifts is the Craft Gallery of Artisans United, at 4022C Hummer Road in Annandale. This shop has wearable art, photography, wooden toys, quilted items, jewelry, and much more – all made by local artists.
