Man arrested after police pursuit

The latest crime report from the Fairfax County Police Department cites an incident involving a traffic pursuit on
Leesburg Pike/Rio Drive in Mason District.

A police officer saw a Lexus sedan stopped in
the middle of a traffic lane at about 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 26 with a man asleep in
the driver’s seat. When the man woke up, he disregarded the officer’s
orders and sped off.

After
a brief pursuit, Melvin Cordon-Mejia, 37, of Alexandria, pulled over and was
charged with driving while intoxicated, no driver’s license, obstruction of
justice, and eluding.

In other crime news, a man was assaulted and
robbed shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec. 21 near the intersection of Lake Street and
Charles Street in Bailey’s Crossroads. He was walking home when he was approached by four men.
One of the men hit the victim with a bat and took personal items from him.

River Turnpike was robbed at 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 18. A man entered, implied he
had a gun, and demanded money. An employee gave him cash, then he assaulted the
employee and ran away. The suspect is described as black, 5 feet, 7 inches
and was wearing all dark clothing.
