Man arrested for DWI after police pursuit
Fairfax County Police arrested a man shortly after midnight on
Dec. 9 at Landmark Mall after a traffic pursuit. An officer observed a vehicle
with expired license plates and “defective equipment” at Backlick Road and
Hechinger Drive, Springfield, and attempted to stop the vehicle, according to the Police Blotter.

The driver struck a mailbox and trash can and attempted to
ram a police cruiser. The pursuit continued until the suspect vehicle struck a curb on the
ramp from I-395 to Duke Street, causing a flat tire. The vehicle pulled into
the parking lot of Landmark Mall and the driver and passenger bailed out and
attempted to flee on foot. They were apprehended a short distance away.
Jamal Herbert, 29, of Washington, D.C., was charged with DWI, speed
to elude, driving on a suspended license, and assault on a law enforcement officer.
The passenger was released at the scene.
