Man attacks police officer at Safeway
Ortiz Sandoval |
The Fairfax County Police Department reports an incident involving an assault on a law enforcement officer at the Safeway at 7414 Little Turnpike in Annandale.
When officers tried to arrest Moris Ortiz Sandaval, 48, of Annandale, for trying to steal alcohol from the store at about 12:10 a.m. on Nov. 13, he punched an officer and attempted to escape. The officer used an electronic control weapon to subdue Ortiz Sandoval and get him into handcuffs. He was charged with larceny, assault, and assault on law enforcement.
On Nov. 11, Selemon Takele, 41, of Alexandria, was arrested for stealing a truck from the Marathon gas station at 5652 Columbia Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads.
The owner of a 2010 Ford 150 left the keys in the ignition when he went inside the gas station shortly before 12 p.m. Takele got into the truck and drove off.
Officers pursued Takele until he finally surrendered on Lee Jackson Memorial Highway near Fair Oaks Mall. He was charged with grand larceny auto, felony speed to elude, and driving while suspended. He was held on no bond.
A woman got a scare when she heard footsteps inside her home on the 4800 block of Randolph Drive in the Willow Run neighborhood in Annandale at about 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 9. She went to the living room and saw an unknown person walk out of the porch and ride away southbound on a bicycle.
She couldn’t tell the person’s sex or race but says they were approximately 5 foot 3 inches tall, of stocky build, and wearing a green jacket, dark knit hat, and black backpack.
Police believe that incident might be connected to the theft of a blue Fuji Dynamite bicycle from a home on the same street during the night of Nov. 8.
Not all the crimes occur in the Annandale/Mason District area, of course. There were dozens of larceny and burglary crimes throughout Fairfax County during the past few days, FCPD reports, as well as these incidents:
