Man charged with vehicular death of 8-year-old boy
An 8-year-old boy, Brian Hernandez-Chavez, died after being struck by a car while he was standing on the side of Duke Street in Lincolnia Jan. 15, and the driver, Victor M. Aldana, 22, was charged by Alexandria Police with DUI manslaulghter, DUI maiming, reckless Driving, and not having an operator’s license, WJLA reported Jan. 16.
Alexandria police say Aldana was driving a 1994 Honda Accord westbound on Duke Street near the overpass to I-395 when the car ran off the road and struck Hernandez-Chavez, also a resident of the Lincolnia area, and his mother, 31, at about 2:30 p.m. The car continued down an embankment, struck a traffic control box, and came to rest against the guardrail for I-395.
The boy was pronounced dead on the scene while his mother was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Aldana was not injured.
Aldana, a resident of 4945 Manitoba Drive, #102, Lincolnia, in the Alexandria part of Fairfax County, is being held without bond at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center.

What a tragedy.
That entire intersection is a mess–from Landmark to the Sunoco and something must be done about it. Too often, I see close calls and poor decisions that result in more and more backed up traffic and dangerous driving.
