Man crushed by asphalt roller in Annandale

A construction worker was killed in a bizarre accident in Annandale Saturday when he was run over by an asphalt roller in the 7300 block of Statecrest Drive, according to news reports.

Police said Woodbridge resident Edgar Tobar, age 40, was standing near a construction site when another employee operating an asphalt roller lost control of the machine and ran over him. Tobar was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

According to the Potomac Local, homicide investigators were called to the accident scene, but decided not to file criminal charges. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating Tobar’s death.
