The victim is Enrique R. Vanterpool, 27 of Alexandria. No one else was injured, said FCPD spokesperson Tawny Wright. The homicide occurred shortly before police were called at 7:20 a.m.
It’s not known how many people were involved, as some left before police arrived. It was more than two or three but not a huge group, Wright said. They were acquainted with one another, and there is no indication that they were there unlawfully. At least one of the men at the scene was an employee at TMT Auto Body.
According to the FCPD, there is no threat to public safety. Police would like to hear from anyone who has information about the incident. Call 203-9691-2131.
According to the Covering the Corridor blog, Vanterpool lived with his girlfriend and six-month-old son in the Mount Vernon Square apartments off Richmond Highway in the Hybla Valley area. His older sister, Shari McCallum, said the confrontation between the two groups started as a dispute over a girl, the blog reports, and McCallum was shot in the chest. “Wrong place, wrong situation,” said McCallum. “It shouldn’t have went down the way it went.”
Vanterpool wasn’t perfect but had a good heart and was happy to be a father for the first time, McCallum told Covering the Corridor. “He was always a happy person; he was always loyal. If he had something to give, he would.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for Vanterpool’s funeral expenses.
