Marie Monsen nominated for Volunteer Fairfax Lifetime Achievement Award

Marie Monsen, a longtime community activist in Mason District, has been nominated for a 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award from Volunteer Fairfax.

Monsen was recognized for her work with the Annandale Christian Community for Action (ACCA), Rebuilding Together, Shelter House, Faith Communities in Action, and Interfaith Communities for Dialogue. Monsen is a past president of ACCA and is chair of ACCA’s housing repair program.

Nominations will be judged by an outside panel of judges. The winners will be announced at the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards Ceremony on April 21 at the Waterford in Springfield.

Gale Coleman, chair of the transportation program for the Shepherd’s Center of Annandale-Springfield and a past president of ACCA, was nominated for the Mason District Community Champion Award.

Among the many other volunteers recognized by Volunteer Fairfax are these individuals who participated in Annandale/Mason District programs:

• 250 volunteer hours or more: Mark Cohen (George Mason Regional Library) and Howard Albers (Fairfax County Park Foundation, Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling, Pine Ridge Civic Association).
• Up to 250 volunteer hours: Kate Walter (Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club and Stuart High School PTSA) and Bryan Smalley (Shelter House/Patrick Henry Family Shelter).
