Mason District Council launches website with neighborhood resources

Community leaders and residents in Fairfax County’s Mason District are encouraged to check out the new website for the recently revitalized Mason District Council (MDC). The council represents community organizations and homeowner associations in the Mason District and provides a forum to address issues of common concern—everything from what to do about graffiti, to how to renovate an aging community pool, to how to get more residents to participate in community projects.

The website has resources and project ideas for community associations on property maintenance, litter, revitalization, and neighborhood watch—and more will be added. It also has advice on how to start an association and how to develop a community newsletter. And every month, the website will recognize “community leaders who go above and beyond.” This month, the MDC spotlights Mike Gates and David Galway, who have led efforts to spruce up the common areas in the Parklawn neighborhood.

A recent survey of MDC members identified property maintenance as their top issue or concern, followed by revitalization (maintaining common areas), volunteer recruitment, and zoning (multi-occupancy homes).

So far, 19 neighborhood groups have joined the council. Some of them are Indian Run townhomes near Poe Terrace Park on Little River Turnpike, Lake Barcroft, Ravenwood Park in Falls Church, the Pinecrest community by the Pinecrest Golf Course, and the Woodlake Towers condominium near Seven Corners.
