Mason District Little League hosts Hit-a-thon this weekend

The Mason District Little League’s success depends on volunteers and contributions from the community.

The MDLL’s third annual Hit-a-thon, its primary fundraiser, takes place this weekend – May 6 at Mason District Park for the Majors and May 7 at Parklawn Park for all other players.

The Hit-a-thon is like a walk-a-thon. Each player solicits sponsors who pledge to make a tax-deductible donation to MDLL. Donations can be made online. Pledges can be based on the total distance a player attains or donors can make a flat contribution.

Each player has the opportunity to hit the ball 10 times. The total distance of the six longest hits counts towards the player’s score. Trophies will be awarded to the players with the longest hit and the top teams in each division.

The Hit-a-thon raises money for equipment, field maintenance, scholarships for needy players, and players’ and coaches’ clinics. This year’s fundraising goal is $18,000.

The fundraiser will conclude on June 10 with League Celebration Day at Mason District Park, featuring the annual coaches’ challenge softball game, with MDLL coaches playing against parents and alumni. Prizes will be awarded to the top hitters in the league, top fundraisers, the 2016 division champions, all-star players, and graduating Little Leaguers.
