Mason Police District to get a new commander

Quinn

Capt. Christian Quinn is expected to succeed Capt. David Smith as commander of the Mason Police District this summer after the 2015 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG), which are hosted by Fairfax County June 26-July 5.

Quinn is currently in charge of security and operations for
the WPFG,  which are expected to draw 12,000 athletes
from 70 countries. There will be more than 60 separate competitions at venues
all over the region.

Quinn has served in various positions with the FCPD since he joined the force in 1997. Before his current assignment, he worked with the Washington Metropolitan Transportation Authority
on opening Metro’s Silver Line and served as commander of the School Resource
Officer program, where he conducted suicide awareness training.

Smith, who’s only been station commander since January 2014,
is being reassigned to the FCPD’s Major Crimes Division.
The previous Mason commander, Capt. Carol Wilhite, only served for about eight
months.

  1. This seems like really fast turnover, to me, but what do I know, I'm not a policing expert. Crime in Mason District is down, right? So why do they keep booting all the police captains? Capt. Gun Lee (who was great) stayed here forever but since him it's been a lot of turnover, I can't imagine that's a good thing. It would be great if we could get a frame of reference, how long do police captains tend to stay in other districts in Fairfax?

  2. Maybe they get tired of how Gross uses their officers to carry out her petty vendettas against innocent citizens who call her out on her malfeasance..

    1. Quite an accusation. Any citation for that allegation?

Given that you're posting anonymously, like most of us, "Take my word for it" isn't sufficient. :^)

    2. Good Lord — will you people never stop. Disagree with her positions if you will, but blaming all the ills or changes you don't like in Mason District on Penny Gross gets to be real silly after a time.

    1. This is a terribly sexist comment. God forbid some commenter on this site comments on the looks of a professional woman (either postively or negatively) – they would be denounced as a Misogynist and tarred and feathered in oh so Modern Annandale,VA.

But men who risk their lives serving the public? Oh yeah, turning them into sexual objects is A-OK.

Zero tolerance for the objectification of individuals applies to everyone.

    2. "This is a terribly sexist comment." So, he's the Fairfax police and you're the PC police. A match made in heaven.

    3. 1001 pls explain how sexist. 815 just said he was attractive, unclear how that implies sexism

    4. What a bunch of prudes. If someone as sexy as this guy was supervisor Mason would turn around immediately. What a charismatic smile, I think I'll turn myself in.
